As I sit down to write this blog post I am full of excitement. I mean, I am super psyched, my stomach is making somersaults. You know that feeling when you’re totally “GaGa” for someone? You can’t eat, you can’t sleep. Butterflies have taken up what seems like permanent residence in your stomach? That’s how I feel about the next White Sensation party. Why? Just because of three little words:
FEDDE. LE. GRAND.
Hallelujah baby Jesus. The rave Gods have heard my prayers. Ever since I first heard his hit single “Put your hands up 4 Detroit” I’ve been intrigued by this guy. Of course it doesn’t hurt that he is completely and unbelievably gorgeous (Hey, I’m married, not dead or blind). This 38 year old, Utrecht born babe will be here on our friendly island on January 2nd. Insane groupie mode: ON.
I’ve been counting down the days ever since my friends at Soggy Dollar Bar in Simpson Bay revealed the headliner for the next White Sensation party. 30 days, 3 weeks, 2 weeks and now we are less than a week away from the party of all parties. It has become a favorite hobby of mine to open the year with an EDM event. It started last year with Curaçao’s Su’Legria with headliners Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano and Leroy Styles. This year I couldn’t be happier to be opening my 2016 with none other than the awesome Mr. Le Grand.
The White Sensation events have become quite popular on this tiny rock. We have seen international DJ sensations such as Quintino, Jacob van Hage and Chuckie himself, all turning us mere islanders into complete unadulterated rave monsters and we love it. Quintino broke the dock. Soggy better have a stronger dock for Fedde. To use Quintino’s hit number: it is going to be EPIC.
Here are 4 easy steps to prepare yourself mentally, fashionably and physically to rave your heart out.
#1 Buy your F*ing Wristband
Like seriously though, if you haven’t yet, what the heck are you waiting for? Stop bitching about the price. It’s only $40 ($50 at the door) to see an amazing, internationally known entertainer. Just do it!
#2 Get to know Fedde
You’re thinking “I wish”, right? All kidding aside. Familiarize yourself with his music. Check out his Youtube channel.
Besides the obvious 2009 hit “Put your Hands up 4 Detroit” I am also absolutely in trance of “Let me think about it”, “where we belong”, “Twisted”, “Take me home”, his collaboration with Nicky Romero “Sparks”, his MJ remix “Love never felt so good”, his latest hit “Noise” and my absolute favorite ever since I saw the ULTRA Miami 2013 video: “Don’t give up”.
#3 Get your headgear on
Flower headbands have become almost synonymous with EDM events. Purchase yours or make your own. Youtube is filled with DIY tutorials.
#4 The perfect White Sensation outfit
I’ve been to every White Sensation event and I am always amazed to see people in heels and cocktail dresses. People, this is an electronic dance music event. That means it’s a bunch of people jumping up and down like crazies. It’s sweaty, it’s messy and it’s f*ing awesome. What it is not is a catwalk. Rave outfits are generally quite colorful and White Sensation’s dress code being white only tends to be challenging. But the fun is in finding that perfect outfit. Think feathers, flowers, crazy and most of all fun. Go wild and dare to express your love for electronic dance music through your clothes.
