December is here and everybody is being inundated with Christmas gift ideas. From what to get your husband, wife or mistress to the right gifts for the mother-in-law from hell or your favorite pooch.
There is one group I have not seen a gift guide for yet and that is the Traveling Island Girl. I am not referring to myself here, although the guide below certainly represents most of what I would like to receive from Santa this year. I am talking about all of the island ladies that travel often, whether it is for business or pleasure as well as the island girl always on the go.
I am one lucky island girl. Not only do I get to call this very unique half Dutch, half French island my home, but I get to choose out of 37 beaches every single time I feel like going for a swim.
It occurred to me that I don’t share enough of the good, the great and the awesome that can be found on this friendly island. So, last Saturday I linked up with my new sidekick Neil to go beach exploring. I wanted to go test out some of the best beaches for myself and report back to you, my readers with an honest and up to date list of 5.
The Caribbean, a place that has long been called paradise by many and that is on the bucket list of countless. It’s a place that still knows the meaning of tranquility, simplicity and hospitality. It is where the term “easy living” is still a fact of life. I am just lucky to be able to call it home. The next 10 pictures will make you too want to buy a one way ticket to white sand beaches, gorgeous sunsets, inspiring sunrises and crystal turquoise waters.
It is known as the winter playground of the rich and famous. Words like chic, luxury, celebrities, expensive are all associated with it. Of course I’m talking about the ever elegant St. Barth, an 8.1 square mile island in the French Caribbean.
I visited St. Barth recently for a weekend and was curious to see what it would be like in the summer months, also known as the dreaded low season. If you’re planning to do some celebrity gawking and taking selfies with luxury yachts in the background, then this is not the right time for you to go. The rich and famous all flock to places like Monaco and Cannes in the summer, leaving this little French paradise almost deserted and mostly tranquil. But this is when you see the real St Barth.
Oh La La, St. Barth, playground of the rich and famous.
This beautiful French island lies in close proximity to St. Maarten, making it an ideal destination for a day trip. With the demand for St. Barth being quite high, especially around Christmas and New Year, there are several ferries leaving daily from different parts of St. Maarten. The reasons for visiting for the day are mostly the same; the ever so popular Plage de St. Jean, home to the infamous Nikki Beach, celebrity spotting and not to forget shopping, or at least window shopping if you’re like me and on a tight budget.
When I told my bff that I would be visiting Curaçao last October at the same time that she would be there for work, she insisted I stay with her in her condo at Palapa Beach Resort, her family’s hotel. Knowing about this project from when we were little girls I was more than happy to accept this generous offer. How could I resist? After all I had spent most of my youth looking at the plans, which her dad had hanging on his office wall way before the first block was ever laid.
