It was a sunny yet breezy morning when my friend and I boarded one of the two catamarans from Pyratz Gourmet Sailing. This was my second adventure with this charter company, but my first time sailing to the neighboring island of Anguilla with them. The excitement to sail with Pyratz again was definitely in the air, but I was also a bit uneasy. It was an untypical windy day, and wind means choppy waters, especially in the channel between St. Maarten and Anguilla. And I am the queen of motion sickness, who in her rush to make it to the boat on time, forgot to pack her seasickness tablets. Oops! This was definitely going to be an interesting day.
My top 3 safest Caribbean islands for solo female travelers
When it comes to female solo travel, one thing and one thing only remains the number one concern of all, and that is safety. Although I have only visited a small percentage of the entire Caribbean to date and still have lots to explore and discover, 3 small islands stand out the most when it comes to exploring and experiencing an island destination in a safe environment.
“The best way to help the Caribbean is to visit the Caribbean” – a post hurricane list of where to stay.
“The best way to help the Caribbean is to visit the Caribbean this winter”
This seems to be a rather controversial saying that has sparked many debates. Some say exposing visitors to the current status of the damaged islands will only hurt tourism, while others, like myself can only see the benefits of opening the islands up to visitors as soon as possible. My personal opinion is that we cannot afford not to. Tourism is what we are and what we do here in the Caribbean and further delaying our tourist season is only going to hurt our already fragile economies.
Anguilla: Exotic finds, fried fish and the Blues
I had the pleasure and immense honor of attending Anguilla’s first ever Folk & Blues Festival on the gorgeous beach of Rendezvous Bay last month. It was an amazing experience, made even more memorable when I combined it with exploring unknown parts of the island in my rental car and eating fresh fried fish, while enjoying Anguilla’s other more popular blues, that of its clear waters.
Oh My World! I’ve been nominated for the Best Caribbean Travel Blog Post
Each year the CTO or Caribbean Tourism Organization presents a Media Award for the Best Caribbean Travel Blog Post. Being a self-proclaimed Caribbean Connoisseur and a lover of all things island, I entered my blog post The Island Girl’s Guide to Experiencing the True Anguilla and proceeded to completely forget about it.
Hotel Review: The Fountain Resort Residences in Anguilla
Perfect despite a few imperfections is how I would describe the Fountain Resort Residences at first sight. Located in Shoal Bay East, it’s a quaint place that doesn’t have all the usual resort amenities but doesn’t really need them either. Offering one bedroom, two bedrooms or studio accommodations the Fountain is the ideal place to stay for couples, groups and families.
