I love food and there is nothing anyone can do about it. So, imagine my delight when I received an email from Flavors of St. Maarten Food Tours inviting me to join them on their next trip. As you can imagine it took me exactly 3 seconds to decide and reply with a “Hell Yeah”.
The day of the food tour could not come fast enough. I was so looking forward to this and was sure I was going to have a blast. The day of the tour however, I started feeling a bit apprehensive. I was going on a bus with a bunch of strangers for half a day touring an island I know like the back of my hand. Would I be able to get along with everyone? Would there be vegetarian options for me? Would I be able to enjoy it seeing that I call this island home and know most of the restaurants on the list? Would I look stupid with my selfie stick? I pushed those insecurities aside and decided to just go with the flow. I made sure my camera and GoPro were charged and ready for action.
In just a few days it will be 2017. I’m just gonna sit here and wait till that sinks in.
According to Back to the Future, we should all be driving flying cars and cruising on hover boards by now. 2016 may not have brought us the self lacing shoes or Jaws 10 in 5D but doesn’t mean it wasn’t an interesting year.
Before I started writing this post I went back to the resolutions, or rather promises I made to myself at the end of 2015. Even though we all forget about these resolutions by mid January, I am proud to say that I did accomplish most of the promises I made to myself. Perhaps not exactly as planned but I did travel solo, I did travel more, I was more me than ever, I definitely did more exploring, more blogging and spent more time with my husband. Yoga is the only one I did not get to do this year but who knows, perhaps 2017 will become my yoga year.
So you’ve decided to take a trip. You have even decided on the destination and general area in which you would like to stay. Now, all you have to do is book your ticket. Expedia is the obvious choice for most Caribbean people but you’ve heard of some great apps and booking sites thanks to social media or perhaps from friends abroad. Not to mention that most of us receive US TV and have access to youtube. Then….frustration. Most of the sites don’t offer special deals out of your island or worst yet, the site doesn’t even recognize your island’s airport code. Shocking!
Well, don’t despair. I’m here to let you in on some of my secret apps and travel sites that will definitely work for you, regardless of the tiny size of the island you might call home.
When I told my bff that I would be visiting Curaçao last October at the same time that she would be there for work, she insisted I stay with her in her condo at Palapa Beach Resort, her family’s hotel. Knowing about this project from when we were little girls I was more than happy to accept this generous offer. How could I resist? After all I had spent most of my youth looking at the plans, which her dad had hanging on his office wall way before the first block was ever laid.
